Kona has arrived!

So pumped to be among the 'oddballs and weirdos' that Kona attracts, as described in this interesting article. Wheel Life Cyclery received 17 new 2014 Kona bicycles this week. Give us a few days to build them up and then come take a look see.

ELEVATION (A Powderwhore Production Backcountry ski film)

The backcountry is the imagination unleashed and you get out what you put in. There are real boundaries and limitations though; avalanches, exposure to the elements, conditions and fatigue all challenge one to grow inknowledge, patience and fitness. Putting in the perspiration and inspiration leads to ELEVATION.

Kick off the 2013/14 ski season right with the latest Powderwhore production Elevation.

November 23rd.

Tickets $15 in advance $20 at the door.
Includes movie, choice chow and recreational bevies.

BYOC/B (bring your chair/beanbag)

Tickets available at Wheel Life Cyclery and/or Okotoks Orthodontics

Get Bright!

Wheel Life Cyclery is exicted to be part of this year's Get Bright campaign!

Days are getting shorter.  If you're out in the evenings on your bicycle, you're already riding in the dark. And in a few weeks, you might even be riding in the dark on your way to and from work or school.

Having a white front light and a red rear light is not only required by law if you ride at night, it is also the single most effective piece of safety equipment you can buy. It makes you more visible, and hence less likely to be in a collision. A full quarter of all collisions happens at night!

Lights are a must not only if you ride on city streets, but also on pathways.  If others can't see you, they can't make way for you, and they might step or steer into your way.  And a pothole or tree root bump is more easily avoided if you can see it.

So, get a good set of lights. They're not expensive, and they may literally save your life.

Through September 2013, Wheel Life would like to extend a 15% discount on all regularly priced bike lights in stock. Stop by the shop and check out our selection of KNOG and LIGHTS & MOTION lights to brighten the dark winter months.

Linus Bikes

Wheel Life Cyclery is happy to announce that we are now carrying Linus Bikes.

Inspired by French bicycle design of the 50s and 60s Linus has created a bicycle that preserves the simple elegance and pure form of that golden era, but has all the benefits of modern comfort and reliability. LINUS is the utilitarian city bike… simple and reliable, but with a personality and style that makes you feel like you’re in an old French movie… you’re floating a little from the wine you drank at lunch… maybe instead of going back to the office you’ll take a nap under a tree, go for a swim in the sea or drop by your lover’s house…

Alaska or Bust!

We were pretty excited at Wheel Life the other day to get a call from Steamboat Colorado. Jimmy and Linda were on their way up from Colorado on an epic bicycle journey to Anchorage Alaska.  Not only were they on this great adventure, but they are on it together on a tandem recumbent bicycle! When they got to the shop Christopher was happy to help them repair some wear and tear on their bike, and even added a little "made in canada" touch on their chain ring. In turn, Jimmy and Linda were happy to let us take their bike for a spin, and it was a pretty fun ride! Now they are off to continue their journey North. If you want to follow Jimmy and Linda on their Alaska trek check them out at: http://www.jwestlake.com/alaska3/

Fair winds!

The Wheel Life team.

With an innovative design that helps kids learn to balance by scooting with their feet, the Burley MyKick Balance Bike eliminates the need for training wheels. Paired with a Little Nutty helmet, your 3 and under child will not only be the cutest rider on the sidewalk but just steps away from coasting on two wheels. Available now at Wheel Life Cyclery.

Honey Badger don't care

Looking for a mountain bike that will set you apart from your friends? Check out the Spot Brand Honey Badger. We're the only bike shop in Alberta that has one. Use it on any day, any trail, for whatever reason. To be honest, the Honey Badger don't care.

Picture this...

Our friend Corbin likes to stop by the shop regularly and talk bikes. He is definitely one of our favourite ‘Wheel Lifers’ and has a dream to own his own bike shop some day (Please not soon Corbin). He recently sent us pics of him rockin’ the indoor BMX track and that got us to thinking about how we’d love to have a wall in the shop that celebrates our customers and their love of cycling. So, we invite you to send us your favourite photo of you and your bike. It can be a pic of you back in the day with your banana seat and handlebar streamers, or the day you or your kid finally rode without training wheels and got a true sense of bike freedom. We want pics of the day you finished (or won) your first road race, or just you enjoying a great day of riding. You can email your photos to info@wheellife.ca, message us on facebook, or even better just bring them by the shop. As soon as we have a bit of a collection we’ll get the photo wall started. Help us honour you and your Wheel Life.

Rippin on the Rippers

Wheel Life Cyclery took their SE Racing Bikes out for test rides this past Wednesday during the Okotoks BMX race night. Jocelyn, our BMX chicky of awesomeness was blown away by the performance of the SE PK Ripper Elite XL. The geometry was phenomenal and it was super easy to manoeuvre. Its all set up and ready to race. Stop by the shop and take it for a ride, although we recommend that you do not follow Christophers example and wear more than Birkenstock sandals :)

Babes and their Bikes

Wheel Life Cyclery would like to invite you ladies to a night of wheels, wrenches, and wine. Christopher, our Wheel Master, will teach you all the ins and outs of bike maintenance, from changing a tire to shifting and gear adjustments. Bring a healthy chocolate treat or appie to share, along with your favorite beverage, and prepare to get your hands dirty.

Tuesday May 21st at 7:30pm.

Email us at info@wheellife.ca or call at (403)870-2506 to RSVP.
